Our Story

AJ's birth was nothing short of miraculous for Tonya and Antonio Tolson. However, their joy was tempered by surprise when their rainbow baby received a Level I/II Autism diagnosis from Charlotte's Children’s Developmental Services Agency (CDSA) at just one year old. Early signs like delayed speech and missed milestones during pediatric checkups hinted at challenges ahead.

Formal confirmation of AJ's autism at eighteen months meant the Tolsons faced providing costly services once he turned three. Determined to secure the best outcomes for AJ, they became his staunchest advocates. Prompt intervention led to significant strides in his speech and overall development.

In April 2022, driven by their journey, Antonio and Tonya Tolson established AJ and the Cool Kids, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Their mission is clear: to cultivate a positive, supportive community for families impacted by autism. Through education, awareness campaigns, and financial assistance initiatives, they ensure that families have access to essential services crucial for post-diagnosis success.
